What are the concerns of doing without therapeutic doses of Zinc Oxide in piglet feeds?

Countries in Europe are handling the ban of therapeutic use of zinc oxide in piglet feeds in very different ways. While France and The Netherlands do not see many problems with such a ban, countries like Spain or even Denmark are still looking for a clear strategy.

Most of the countries are aware that new approaches need to be holistic, combining the piglet management and the feed formulation.

The abundance of physiological and therapeutic effects of medicinal ZnO indicates that the mode of action is multifactorial and therefore it is difficult to point out the exact mechanism that alternative products should imitate. Considering this, it is also very unlikely to find one single ingredient that can perform the same impact on the animals as medicinal ZnO.

Five piglet feeds experts from Denmark, Spain, Greece and France reveal their solutions to make such a ban a non-event.
